RESHOW

RESHOW is an empirical comment on abundance, with focus on debris from exhibitions.
A dynamic waste management system implying: coordination, selection, recollection, refit, catalogue, storage, reallocation.
RESHOW promotes reuse, and the development of non commercial cultural initiatives with constant collaboration between producers.
It may lead to expand possibilities of appropriation and re-signification of everyday life and its debris, core topics of antipodes cafés oeuvre.

Materials

Before the mounting/dismounting process of an exhibition at a private or public institution, antipodes café coordinates for defining specific materials that can be taken for their reuse instead of becoming garbage.

Debris from exhibitions include a wide range of materials such as: wooden panels, pedestals, displays, frames, rests of paint, nails and screws, banners and diverse printed materials, acrylics, but also screens, projectors, lighting and audio systems, tools and many more things that can be easily reused.

On many occasions, dismounting teams do not count with enough time to treat materials with care for a possible reuse, so antipodes café may participate actively in the dismounting process, by picking materials in diverse sizes and conditions.

Cleaning, repair, polishing edges and removing imperfections, are activities proper of refitting stage.

Aiming coherence in all aspects of this initiative, transport of big materials is mostly done by reusing old vans from the postal service, while for coordination and moving small debris, –thanks to Oslo Kommune and Eltempo– reshow count with two electric bikes with traillers which are also lend to users when needed.

Digital inventory

  • app: available for Android and iOS
  • display: at exhibition spaces

After classification, a digital inventory helps to visualize all materials, and it allows registered users to select available materials and to schedule an appointment for picking them at the storage.

In addition, this catalogue includes a label system, helping antipodes café to keep a clear order of the storage.

After any material is reused in any kind of non commercial cultural initiative –such as exhibitions, urban interventions, cultural spaces, artworks, festivals– registered users may send comments and images of their creations, to be published on this online platform for tracking the history of the materials and inspire others to reuse materials.

E-commerce website made with WooCommerce for WordPress.
It include the pluggin Barcode Generator for WP (By UK Solutions)

APP

The digital inventory is also available as an APP for both Android and iOS,  with responsive design working correctly across a broad range of devices. Created with WPMobile.app

DISPLAY

Inviting to explore materials detached from their initial function in the shows, interactive displays are added at souvenir shops and entrances of exhibition spaces, allowing visitors to see, search and choose materials for the creation of new cultural initiatives. In the frame of the Oslo Architecture Triennale 2019 ‘Enough: The Architecture of Degrowth’, three displays were available at:

  • Nasjonalmuseet – Arkitektur
  • DOGA
  • ROM for kunst og arkitektur

In 2020, one display was included at the exhibition klima2+ at Norsk Teknisk Museum.

Displays are presented in pedestals entirely made with debris from past exhibitions.

Storage

æBod

From early 2019 until May 2020, the storage was called antipodes café Bod (æBod), and it took part in the project æHouse.

The interior design of these two red “REBLOCK” containers was evolving day by day, and made just with debris materials from exhibitions (wood, screws, lights, cables, paint… 100% debris)
This construction was mutating during open workshops (Sundays 1-3pm) for promoting the reuse of materials. Activity arranged with the participation of a guest artist.
Kids were welcome too, and with them we focused in reusing all these materials for temporary playgrounds, as the one of the area got trapped inside the construction site of the refurbishment of the Oslo Prison.
The Official addresses between February 2019 and April 2020 was Åkebergveien 9, 0650, Oslo. (encounter of Botsparken with the construction site of the refurbishment of the Oslo Prison)
During April 2020 æBod was moved to Nydalen but never opened to the public. Due to COVID-19, antipodes café decided to close æHouse in May 2020.

RESHOW Storage

After closing æHouse, reshow inherited the containers and location of æBod until defining a new storage, this time not in containers but in a more stable space. Hopefully soon.

Reuse

As simple as to put back to work something with same intended function or a new one, giving a new life and meaning to an existing object. Reusing materials demands a playful level of creativity, inviting to reformulate ideas according to possibilities.

To reuse is not to recycle. Recycling demands an “industrial” change to a product to turn it back into raw materials for the manufacture of new products.

Reusing materials instead of working with new ones, prevents pollution caused by reducing the need to harvest new raw materials or to recycle, saving lot of energy and reducing greenhouse gas emissions that contribute to global climate change, and amount of space of landfills and of other destinations, such as gyres of marine debris in world’s oceans.
